President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has left for a six-island tour of Lhaviyani Atoll.
He left for the three-day tour on Friday afternoon.
The islands the President will cover throughout the tour are Madivaru, Naifaru, Olhuvelifushi, Kurendhoo as well as President Hinnavaru’s home island and Felivaru where he will visit the fish canning factory.
During the visits, the President will arrange meetings with community leaders on the islands, including members of the atoll council, local councils, women’s development committees, and the management and staff of public institutions on the islands.
He will also meet with the inhabitants of the island to discuss their concerns.
The president is also expected to observe the progress of ongoing development projects in the islands, alongside the official inauguration of the new Madivaru airport.
A delegation of senior government officials accompanies the president on the trip.
President Solih, who also visited Lhaviyani Atoll on a previous occasion, will conclude the visit and return to the capital on February 20.
President Solih’s frequent trips to the atolls aim to closely observe the living conditions and well-being of the populations, and to strengthen communication and interaction with the island communities.
