As Fond Doux prepares to celebrate its 43rd anniversary of independence, the locally owned and award-winning Eco Resort reveals notable improvements to its guest experience.
One of the station’s major projects is the Battle of Rabot Tour. This tour takes you back 300 years to an era of resistance and slave rebellion. The historic battle took place on April 22, 1795, at Fond Doux, between British forces and a coalition of Colored Frees, escaped slaves and French revolutionaries, during the tumultuous Brigand Wars of 1791-1796. This interactive and informative tour also includes viewing ruins of fortifications, military buildings, a Neg Maron (brown) hideout used during the ambush of British forces; as well as a shrine built in memory of the souls lost in the bloody battle.
The Battle of Rabot tour completes the eco-resort’s portfolio of experiences which includes a taste of Fond Doux, the famous chocolate heritage tour and the Sentier Lamontagne’s best kept secret – Fond Doux.
“There is something special for everyone at Fond Doux, including chocolate lovers, nature lovers, birdwatchers, adventure hikers and environmentally conscious travellers.” Fond Doux is a destination within a destination,” boasts Lyton Lamontagne, co-owner of the Fond Doux Eco Resort.
The Eco Resort is undergoing a new tour guide training program and a complete repackaging of its tour portfolio to enhance the experience of its guests. Estate guides must participate in a three-week professional training course to include customer service.
“We are very pleased with these improvements and we are especially pleased to do so in a way that preserves the history of our resorts, extending its legacy for generations of families to come.” said an enthusiastic co-owner, Eroline Lamontagne, of Fond Doux Eco Resort.
Relaxation is key to any vacation experience and as such the resort recently opened its new Mamma La Terre Spa. The spa is suspended above a small ravine in the heart of the rainforest, an ideal place to recharge, relax and rejuvenate.
The Eco Resort remains committed to the continued development of the resort factory and has introduced a higher standard of luxurious accommodation. Seventy-five percent (75%) of chalets are now equipped with optional air conditioning to better meet visitor expectations. All cottages and resort facilities, indoor and outdoor areas have been refurbished following all safety measures and covid protocols.
As a Green Globe certified resort, Fond Doux Eco Resort continues to raise the bar for eco-friendly luxury. It has received numerous awards such as the 2021 Travel & Hospitality Awards for Saint Lucia Resort of the Year. The Eco Resort believes this is an exciting time for its brand and is committed to restoring a piece of St. Lucia’s history.
