It’s a historic win for the Maldives with Aamin Umar Moosa securing 2nd place in the IBC Bodyboarding World Tour which ended yesterday.
Aamin competed alongside Spaniard Gabriel Molina from the Canary Islands. Aamin was beaten in the closing seconds with a 0.90 score difference. While Molina scored 13 points, Aamin scored 12.1.
Aamin is the first athlete ever to reach the final of an international bodyboard championship, making it a victory for the island nation. With veteran bodyboarder Ali Khusruwan (Kuda Ayya) making it to the finals of two categories as well as the quarter-finals of the senior men’s category, this represents a historic winning streak for the nation. Kuda Ayya also competed in the semi-finals of the Drop Knee category.
American Dave Hubbard is the winner in the Men’s category and the Drop Knee category. He beat French contender Amaury Laverne by a razor thin 0.1 point. Amaury lost with a score of 14.4, while he got a score of 14.5.
Hubbard beat Amaury to win the Drop Knee category with a score of 16.75 to Amaury’s 11.75.
Brazil’s Isabella Sousa won the women’s championship title. She edged Alexandra Rinder of the Canary Islands by 16 points. At the championship, Alexandra received a 9.75.
