AJ Bell extends Tour of Britain title partnership for second year

AJ Bell has been confirmed as title partner of the upcoming AJ Bell Tour of Britain 2022, which takes place September 4-11.

The Manchester-based investment platform will become the title partner of Britain’s biggest professional cycling race for the second year in a row, following its sponsorship in 2021.

This year’s AJ Bell Tour of Britain will kick off in Aberdeen, Scotland on Sunday September 4 and will feature the first-ever opening day summit finish in modern racing history at Glenshee Ski Centre.

The following stages will see riders tackle the roads of the Scottish Borders, North East England, North Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire, Gloucestershire and Dorset.

The peloton will finish eight days and 1,352km later on the Isle of Wight in southern England to become the biggest ever cycling event on the island. This year’s route is set to challenge cyclists with the toughest finish of any Tour of Britain race in modern history, with the final 400m to the finish at The Needles featuring a steep incline average of 9.6%.

108 riders from the 18 competing teams, including INEOS Grenadiers, BORA – hansgrohe and the Movistar team, will be present. The eight stages of the AJ Bell Tour of Britain will also be shown live on UK mainstream channel ITV4, along with a daily one-hour highlights show.

Andy Bell, Managing Director of AJ Bell, said: “We are delighted to be the Title Partner of the AJ Bell Tour of Britain for the second year in a row. The 2021 event made for fantastic viewing both for those able to soak up the atmosphere in person and for those watching from home.

“It’s great to see so many new places along the route this year, no doubt inspiring new and existing cycling fans along the way. I can’t wait to see who will win the AJ Bell Leaders jersey and be crowned the overall winner on the Isle of Wight.

Hugh Roberts, managing director of race organizer SweetSpot Group, said: “We are extremely delighted to have AJ Bell back for the second year as title partner of the AJ Bell Tour of Britain. We have a strong partnership base in place in 2021 and collectively with AJ Bell we are focused on building Britain’s biggest and best bike races.

“This year’s race will be one of our toughest, and once again we expect millions of people to watch the roadside and the world on television. Our team at SweetSpot is fit to organize world-class events alongside our partners, and we will discuss longer-term possibilities with AJ Bell after the event.
