A couple inspired by the famous Love Island villa have transformed their ‘mud pit’ garden after being inspired by the reality show.

Eilish Hodgson, 26, and her partner, Kieran, 26, undertook the daunting task themselves after receiving a £10,000 quote to have a landscaper do the job.

The enterprising couple managed to complete their garden makeover for less than half the price – with the whole project costing them just under £4,000.

After designing the garden herself, Eilish says her biggest inspiration for the transformation was the popular ITV show.

She added: “I’ve taken a look at gardens of a similar size to ours on Pinterest and Instagram.

“But my main inspiration for the was actually Love Island. I love the style of the villa’s outdoor space and all the lighting.

“It’s really modern and simple, and I think the lighting really brings an outdoor space to life.

“I watch it every year and always think how amazing it looks.

“So I decided to recreate this on a smaller scale in my garden. We are delighted with the result.”

When the couple moved into their new home, the garden looked like a ‘mud pit’.

They were desperate to renovate the outdoor space but were unable to shell out the quoted £10,000.

Eilish, a PA, said: “Paying £10,000 for someone else to do the garden was just out of the question.

“So we decided to do it ourselves and make it a DIY project.

“My step-dad is also a builder so he was a big help to us most weekends, which we were really grateful for.

“And Kieran is an electrician so he’s handy and takes care of all the electrics and lighting. We gave ourselves a budget of £4,000 and stuck to it completely.

“I spent hours shopping and researching online and further afield for the cheapest materials to make sure we weren’t wasting money unnecessarily.

“Planning was key to making sure we were on budget, I wrote down every cost to make sure we knew what we were spending.”

Eilish admits the garden makeover was hard work and she sometimes worries that the couple bit off more than they could chew.

But she says seeing the finished product is worth it.

Eilish added: “We had to level the whole garden, add extra drainage, build the planters, lay the artificial grass and the patio.

“It was very hard work but we persevered and it was worth it.

“It’s amazing to see it all come together and we’re so happy to now have the garden exactly how we wanted it.

“We have our own mini Love Island in our back garden and love being able to enjoy it with our friends and family.

“It’s almost like an extension of our house. It worked perfectly.”

Love Island airs weekdays from 9 p.m. on ITV2.
