DP World Tour player amused by Charles Howell III ‘Not for the money’ LIV claim

A theme of the past few months has been marquee golfers on the PGA Tour – but perhaps admittedly past their prime – joining the new and lucrative LIV Golf series.

One of the last to join in time for LIV’s event in Bedminster, New Jersey, is 43-year-old Charles Howell III, who has three PGA Tour victories in about 600 starts during a career of almost 20 years. At that time, Howell III won around $40 million in prize money. If he wins at Bedminster this week, he could pocket a tenth of that in three days’ work.

Despite this fact, Howell said money was not a factor. On the contrary, he is excited about the team aspect of LIV events and can also spend more time with his family.

Robert MacIntyre, a 25-year-old up-and-coming DP World Tour golfer, took issue with the comments.

MacIntyre later clarified that he had no problem with Howell III or any other LIV golfers joining the series for the paycheck or signing bonus, but he just hoped people would be honest about their reasons.
