ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Three more Maryland facilities have qualified for sports betting licenses.
State officials say the Maryland Stadium Sub plans to operate a sportsbook at FedEx Field in Landover, home of the Washington Commanders. Chesapeake Gaming in Washington County and BetFred Sports have also qualified for sports betting establishment licenses.
Chesapeake Gaming, has an off-track betting site in Boonsboro and BetFred Sports operates Long Shot’s in Frederick.
Their applications now go to the Sports Betting Application Review Commission (SWARC), which is responsible for awarding licenses.
So far, the Lottery and Gaming Control Commission has found 11 of the state’s 17 entities qualified to obtain these licenses.
However, only six of them have obtained licenses and are in operation, including MGM National Harbor in Prince George’s County, Live! Casino in Anne Arundel County, Horseshoe Casino in Baltimore City, Hollywood Casino in Cecil County, Ocean Downs Casino in Worcester County and Bingo World in Anne Arundel County.
Last month, sports betting facilities contributed nearly $300,000 to Maryland’s Future Fund Plan, which supports public education programs across the state.
The Review Board is scheduled to hold its next virtual meeting on Wednesday, August 17.
