Bottle depots in Greater Victoria are mobilizing to help raise funds for the Canadian Cancer Society’s Cops For Cancer Tour de Rock event.
Fundraising runs now through September and proceeds from drink donations will support this year’s campaign.
Donation bins have been set up outside the Saanich and Victoria Bottle Depot locations for quick drop off.
Staff hope to top last year’s fundraising total by nearly $27,000.
“I think our goal for this year, $30,000, is very, very achievable,” said Matthew Martin, Managing Director of Bottle Depot.
“The Greater Victoria area has been very, very generous with their donations and we look forward to them continuing to make those donations this year,” he said.
“You know, everyone’s been touched by cancer,” Martin said. “I think it’s an important cause and I think we can make a real difference if we get involved.”
This year marks the 25th time that Tour de Rock riders have supported the fight against childhood cancer.
This year’s race will start on September 24 in Port Alice and will include CTV Vancouver Island’s Anna McMillan as a rider.
